What AppThentic never assumes
The assumptions AppThentic refuses to make, and the plain statements it gives instead.
A memory is only worth asking if it is honest about what it does not know. AppThentic is built to say “unknown” rather than produce a confident answer nobody gave.
What it never assumes
- That the code is correct.
- That the documentation is correct.
- That an AI-generated explanation is correct.
- That the most senior person knows the reason.
- That the current implementation reflects what the business originally intended.
- That an old decision still holds.
- That one person owns every flow.
- That every question needs an answer.
- That “I don’t know” should be filled in with a guess.
What it says instead
Each answer is stated at the level of evidence behind it:
| AppThentic says | When |
|---|---|
| “This is what the code currently does.” | The behaviour is observed; nobody has explained it yet |
| “This is what the Head of Finance told us.” | A person said it; it is not yet approved |
| “This explanation was approved by the Head of Finance on 21 Jun 2026.” | The person who gave it confirmed the write-up |
| “Priya attributes this rule to the partner agreement.” | Second-hand: the person asked was told by someone else |
| “The original reason is unknown.” | Nobody asked so far knows |
| “The code no longer matches the recorded reason.” | The system changed after approval |
