FAQ
The questions teams ask first.
Isn’t this just documentation?
No. Documentation is written once and goes stale silently. AppThentic records each reason with its owner and source, watches for changes, and asks again when an answer stops being true.
How is this different from an AI assistant that reads our code?
An assistant can tell you what the code does. It cannot know why a decision was made if nobody wrote it down. AppThentic asks the person who decided and keeps their answer. Assistants can then use that answer through AI coding tools.
Won’t owners get tired of questions?
AppThentic asks only what the existing evidence does not answer, ranks questions by value, and sends a few at a time. See Asking the right questions.
What if an owner gives a wrong answer?
Other sources that disagree are kept, and the rule becomes Disputed. Corrections are recorded with their date. Nothing is overwritten.
What if the owner doesn’t know?
Then AppThentic records that they don’t know, and asks someone else. “The original reason is unknown” is a real answer, and it is never filled in with a guess. See What AppThentic never assumes.
Does any of our data leave our network?
AppThentic and Organization Memory run in your infrastructure. om, its model, runs there too if you choose, and then nothing leaves. If AppThentic hosts om for you, the requests om works on go to AppThentic’s servers. No third-party AI provider sees your data either way. See Deployment.
Do you train on our data?
No. om is not trained on your data, and your facts are not stored in a model. They live in Organization Memory in your infrastructure. See om.
Where should we start?
With one business area that changes often and hurts when it breaks. See Quickstart.
