Legacy migration

For engineering teams moving a legacy system to a modern platform, and deciding which of its rules come along.

Line by line

A migration moves the logic easily. Rewriting a legacy system line by line carries every rule across, including the ones nobody needs any more, and loses the reasons behind the ones that matter.

Before the rewrite

  • See every business rule in the legacy system, with its reason, owner and status.
  • Know which rules are still needed, which are retired, and which nobody can yet explain.
  • Get the owner’s answer on the unexplained rules before your team ports them, not after go-live.

During the migration

  • Port each rule with its approved reason attached, so the new platform starts with its history.
  • Use Change impact to see what depends on a rule before you change or drop it.
  • Give AI coding tools the reasons through MCP, so a converted rule keeps its intent and an odd-looking one is not deleted as a bug.

After go-live

  • The answers stay in Organization Memory, owned by the team that runs the new platform.
  • Every rule left behind is recorded with who decided to drop it, and when.
  • When a rule on the new platform changes, its owner is asked again, as on any other system.

How it works

AppThentic reads the legacy system and the documents, tickets and conversations around it. Every rule it finds goes on a migration list with its status. Approved rules move as they are. Stale rules go to their owner with a question on whether to retire them. Unknown rules go to the person most likely to know, starting with those that touch money, dates and customers. Your team ports from the list, and every decision on what moved and what was left behind is kept with its evidence.
